The San Francisco Examiner

Masthead

In 1985, William Randolph Hearst III hired adman Jeff Goodby (of “Got Milk?” campaign fame) to reinvigorate his flagship newspaper, The San Francisco Examiner. Goodby then hired Lana Rigsby to redesign the masthead, incorporating the slogan and “Hearst Eagle” created by William Randolph Hearst I. Dubbed “Monarch of the Dailies”, the paper was published continuously from 1863 until its retirement in 2015.
